The Corporation inherited 1,000 civil cases, 680 criminal cases and 56 trade dispute and labour cases which were pending in Court. Among the inherited cases, there were those which involved application for temporary injunctions against the disposal of mortgaged properties which were either granted or were under consideration.
The joint efforts between the Corporation and private advocates facilitated settlement of 956 civil cases; 4 Criminal cases and 42 Trade dispute and Labour cases. However the Corporation received 106 new civil cases and 14 labour dispute cases.
These cases among others were transferred from NBC Ltd as per section 8.2 of the Memorandum of Understanding between ABSA Group and Government, which states, “ all cases or claims with a cause of action prior to 1st October 1997, are the responsibility and liability of Consolidated Holding Corporation”.
